GenSol vs. DDC

GenSol’s mission is to contribute to animal health by making DNA testing broadly accessible. We provide breeders and owners with fast, accurate, and affordable genetic tests that support breeding and healthcare decisions. So how does GenSol compare to DDC?

GenSol and DDC are non-invasive DNA testing companies that provide their services to animal breeders and owners. So which company should breeders and owners choose when looking for DNA testing? DDC is a genetic testing company targeting several different animal types. However, due to DDC’s limited customization options, their DNA services cannot compare to those of GenSol. GenSol’s priority is to continue providing breeders and animal owners with fast, accurate, and affordable genetic testing for dogs, cats, goats, and horses.

Let’s look at some of the key features of the two DNA-testing companies, and see how GenSol compares to DDC.

GenSol Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use swabs other than the ones provided by GenSol?

We understand that it may be convenient for some breeders who prefer to use their own animal genetic testing swabs. However, to offer the fastest and most affordable animal DNA testing in the industry and maintain our high standards of accuracy we utilize a standardized process. Part of the process includes using carefully selected and tested swabs. This rigorous process enables us to guarantee accurate animal DNA results, at very competitive prices and with a turnaround time (24 to 48 hours from receiving the samples) that other canine genetic testing labs cannot match.

Do you offer tests not listed on your website?

All GenSol animal genetic tests that have been validated and are currently offered are listed on our website. If you need an animal DNA test we do not currently offer, please email us at [email protected] and we will consider adding it to our menu.

Why do you use cheek swabs/nasal swabs instead of a blood sample? Is a cheek/nasal swab as good as a blood sample?

Using cheek/nasal swabs reduces owner costs because they can take the sample themselves. The DNA extracted from the swab is done in a similar manner to human forensics where cheek/nasal swab testing is common practice. The animals’ DNA is of sufficient quality and quantity for this type of animal genetic testing.

Do you accept dew claws, docked tails, hair, or blood samples from my animal instead of swabs?

We currently do not accept dew claws, docked tails, hair or blood samples. Collecting samples is easy and non-invasive. For dogs and cats, we use soft cheek swabs that are gentle enough for even the youngest puppies and kittens. For goats and horses, a nasal swab is used and can be collected quickly with minimal stress. We recommend waiting at least one hour after feeding before cheek swabbing.

How long will the testing take?

Animal DNA test results are typically available within 1-2 business days after the sample arrives at our animal genetics testing laboratory. In rare cases where DNA quality or quantity is insufficient, processing may take slightly longer.
